I’m not going to lie, my hospital bag has been packed/started since I was about 30 weeks. I had the energy to make a list of all that I would need (or think I would need) and I went to Target and bought some of the stuff. I’m not going to lie guys, if you are pregnant and you get the sudden urge to do something that you know you are going to need to do in the next few weeks, just do it when the urge strikes because as I sit here now at 36+3 days, I have NO desire to make out a list, or pack a bag. My nesting is subsiding, which is a good thing since my body hates me and standing or walking for long periods of time is a thing of the past.
Anyways, before I divulge into the list I will let everyone reading know that this is MY list, and I’m sure that there will be things that I wish I had, or didn’t bring, but that will just be a nice post partum blog post… “What I Didn’t Need In My Hospital Bag”, but we all know that every mom has an opinion and advice, but I’m a first time mom, I’ll figure it out for myself. 🙂
First thing you need is an adorable bag…obviously. (Target)
Next, I have a hospital gown (referenced in previous posts) and a matching pillow case (dude, it came as a set) and some super cute socks! I’ve mentioned before that I despise hospital gowns because I cannot get them tied and my booty hangs out, so this one buttons all the way down and is still easy for the doctors to get to “where they need to be” on your big day.
Panties!! These are from Motherhood, post partum panties that you can wear with your disposable underwear, or pads if you prefer after the birth. These are high waisted and make you feel more “in tact” than just regular disposable underwear. I also have a nursing bras to sleep in pictured that I got at Target as well. Then I have some regular VS underwear just in case!
Then I have the ever sexy disposable underwear, Lanolin Nipple Cream, breast pads, and flushable wipes (cause you are going to want to have something with a little moisture when you wipe your nether regions)
Here I have facial wipes, contact solution & case, & face lotion! I don’t have my glasses packed in there yet because I still need them!
This is the Better Binder that the lady I nanny for, used after all three of her kids. She is a post partum physical therapist, so therapy after having a baby pretty much. She’s been so helpful this whole pregnancy and this binder won’t “just” slim you down, it also pulls your rib cage back to where it was and can help with your hips. I will be able to wear this when I leave the hospital & everyday afterwards.
Here are just my toiletries that I’ll bring along. Perfume, Deodorant, brush, comb, headband, bobby pins, shampoo and conditioner, dry shampoo, hairspray, and tooth brush!
My NYX tinted moisturizer, Anastasia Brow Pencil, & my mascara…because…I MAY feel like pullin my self together.
Towel…because hospital towels suck.
My favorite nursing pajamas from Motherhood I think? I got them at Kohls so I don’t have a link for them. It also came with a maternity robe that is legit, which I will also have.
This is my going home outfit, for now, just old VS yoga pants & a maternity shirt from Target. I may change my mind and go for a maxi dress or something really simple, but for now, I feel safe with at least some sort of clothing item in my bag.
Then I have Kerrigan’s bag as well….
I love this custom bag from Sarah Mayer she does custom orders and furniture repairs as well! So like before, first I started with an adorable and functional diaper bag.
Then I have a burp rag, different types of pacifiers depending on what she likes & if she will even want one, some newborn diapers (Honest and Seventh Generation) wipes, kleenex, Aden and Anais swaddling blanket, (I also have a woombie) if I haven’t quite gotten the hang of swaddling yet, & a boppy. I got the plain white one because I ordered a custom cover for it..cause I’m that girl, and it hasn’t come yet. But THIS is the one I got.
Then I have three outfits for her. I was 9 lbs almost 22 inches long, and Adam was a normal 7 pounder, & she’s measuring with a big head and a skinny body so I have a newborn outfit, and a 0-3 month outfit, along with the outfit I came home in (bottom picture) when I was born. I would love if she fit into the outfit that I wore, but I brought lots of different choices just incase she comes out a little peanut, medium peanut, or big peanut! I also have some mittens & two different hats for her to wear and a head band 🙂
After talking to new mom’s and reading reviews, we’ve decided to go with Burt’s Bee’s for diaper cream, lotion, and shampoo/soap. We also have a bottle of Aveeno Calming lotion & good ole’ Vaseline. So I have some diaper cream & hand sanitizer in there too from Burt’s Bee’s.
I have some chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies frozen that I will package up and make “Thank You” gifts for the nurses, because..well they are going to know me on a super personal level, and well that deserves cookies.
Adam also will have a bag, it will have a change of clothes, his pillow, snacks, gatorade, gum, his phone and anything else he might need.
I may have over packed or under packed, but it is what it is and I feel comfortable with what I have. I’ll also have my phone & Kindle (I’m not kidding when I say I would be that lady who reads during contractions). With my phone however, I will be “unplugged” for most of my labor and all calls, texts, etc will go through Adam so it’s more as a pass the time until things really start to pick up and get real.
We are pre-registered, birth plan is done, breast pump is bought (thanks insurance I love free $350 things) and cleaned, all bottles are washed, pacifiers sanitized, clothes washed, blankets washed, and nursery is 100% complete!! I will have a nursery post coming up. I am so excited to share it!
