Motivation comes and goes for me, clearly, but here I am 40 weeks pregnant tomorrow (okay lets be honest my doctors due date is September 28, but from the beginning I’ve been measuring at September 24 so that’s MY due date…and I dare anyone to tell me otherwise) and finally getting around to showing off our eclectic, vintage, Harry Potter inspired nursery.
Above is the Panorama view of our room but I’ll break it down for you all. This is Kerrigan’s butt changing station! The dresser belonged to my Grandma, who then gave it to my mom. I just called her to ask how old it was, and we figured Grandma had it between 1940-1950… and to be honest it may be older. It had been sitting in my old bedroom at my parents house for years and I knew they wanted to get us something for her nursery so I had asked if they could get it refinished and we could use it as a changing table. Months later it was finally finished and I love it. Nothing was changed except for the stain color. The man who refinished it used a lighter stain after stripping it but the hardware is all original. It’s still growing on Adam because he is very modern where as I am more eclectic with my taste.
The shelf is from Kohl’s and the metal crates are from Gordman’s. I saw this idea on Pinterest to put diapers in metal crates for looks or practicality. These diapers are from Seventh Generation and are so perfect. No prints, just a solid diaper for holding poo poo and they look awesome. The onsie hanging from the shelf we ordered from Etsy when we found out we were expecting the first time, and naturally it arrived a week after we found out we miscarried 🙁 but it had to go in the nursery, it symbolizes more than just my obsession for Harry Potter :). There is a candle from Etsy as well that has her name and the meaning of it along with some jewelry I got from her baby shower. Then some baby friendly chewable bracelets I purchased from a local store in Algona called The Market, and the accessories on top are all from Gordmans and Hobby Lobby. The perfume bottles reminded me of potion bottles and of course the owls scream Harry Potter. The changing pad cover is also from Etsy that I purchased with a gift card from my love Halie Mohr! The cat sign is from my other love Abby Gaedke, it was originally a gift for my bachelorette party but it looks way better in Ker’s room.
If you look closely, that is Adam’s late father Denny posing in his senior picture up top. I remember I was having a rough day being pregnant (weird) and I was going through things in the closet and this fell at my feet and I just took it as a sign that Adam and I are not alone in this journey and pregnancy isn’t supposed to be easy (if it was men would do it…right). So I added Denny to Kerrigan’s room and we will let her know that aside from having Grandpa John (Adam’s stepdad) she also has another Grandpa out there somewhere watching her grow.
Naturally she has to have her first pair of white Keds I got from Amazon. My go to shoe has always been a pair of white Keds, so the girl has to have her own. I originally planned on using all Honest products but after talking to people and other new moms we decided on Burt’s Bee’s. She has diaper cream, lotion, and shampoo to stay clean and smelling real nice!
This chair was originally my mother-in-laws that I asked if we could have & refinish it. It is SO comfy and the quality is outstanding. It was very evident that it was from the 80’s until it got some TLC. Our friend Sarah Mayer from The Phoenix back in Algona recovered and painted the rocker for us and brought it back to the 21st century while still keeping it nursery appropriate. This is Adam’s favorite piece in her room. Jane rocked all three of her kids in this as well as Adam’s aunt Angela, she rocked I think all four, maybe only three of her kids. (Insert joke about how many kids they have.) It feels special to have something from my mom and Adam’s mom in her room. The end table is from Ikea that also holds a lamp (on the bottom) from Ikea as well that is not on their website anymore.
Naturally I have some simple decor consisting of books and some flowers and a vase also from Ikea. The picture of the owl is courtesy of my brother’s girlfriend (insert joke about how he hasn’t proposed to this amazing human yet). She started dabbling in watercolors and is pretty damn talented. The humidifier is both a humidifier and a diffuser that I got as a baby shower gift, it was on Amazon and I’m so sorry I don’t know what it’s called! We are advocates of essential oils and will be using them with Kerrigan.
Here is her crib! I had an IG post about it a while ago but it too is from Ikea, mattress from Target, and bedding from Carousel Designs the bedspread is reversible as you can see here. The mobile is from Etsy and the K and frame are from Hobby Lobby that I painted gold. The pillow cover is, weird, from Etsy, as well.
The next pictures are just some up close pictures of details. Look for description below picture for info!
Hope everyone enjoyed a peek into her nursery. I wish I could take a picture of every outfit, every blanket, and every gift we have been given because we are so thankful but that’s just overkill :D.
As always, thanks for your support
We recently bought the Rock-A-Roo for baby girl to swing in…fingers crossed she likes it!
